  • On Saturday, July 15th, SFMS will be having a field trip to the GigaMacro lab in Napa, CA. GigaMacro is an innovative imaging system that uses a combination of digital macrophotography, robotics, and computational photography to combine a series of small, close-up photos into a gigapixel-resolution image.

    On Sunday, May 11, 2016, The San Francisco Microscopical Society presented a multi-faceted exhibit to help visitors learn how microscopes can help them discover new levels of structure, beauty and information in the world around us that cannot be discerned by the unaided eye.

    What are They?

    Blue-green algae are actually bacteria that have qualities similar to algae and other plants. These bacteria are cyano-bacteria – cyan means blue-green – they are commonly found on land and in lakes, rivers, ponds, and in estuaries and marine water.
